Fitness fix
Published in Mega Modelz magazine – Oct-Dec 2009 Issue – © Manali
Achieving fine shape and a well toned body is one of those desires which we all dream of, because all of us want to look young and stay healthy forever. It is easy to think highly of those supermodels and celebrities who flaunt fantastic body structures and fit figurines. But the fact behind the scene remains – one needs to work very hard to get there and gain that. This can be outrageously easy for some, but in most of the cases it is ridiculously tough. It all depends on your resolution and dedication towards wanting a healthy lifestyle. All it takes is working out religiously and other basic things that you need to implement in your regular lifestyle. Manali H. Shah complies few tips and workout oriented facts that may lead you to achieve this goal, let alone the obsolete size zero obsession!
Start now
Every path starts with a single step. The best way is to dive in ‘right now’ and never look back.
Physical check up
In order to start on the right fitness path, it is imperative to see your doctor to assure an ‘OK’. Especially if you’re a smoker, an alcoholic or have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or an overweight body. This also provides confidence to move forward safely and lights guidance on the pace you’ll precede.
Set pragmatic and concrete goals
Simply stating that you want to get in shape is not effective. Be specific and work at it. For example, I want to lose 5 kgs of fat by 15th December – set such goals.
Get on with essentials
Proper training shoes and feel-good jogging costume are must-have’s. It’s vital to be comfortable while you’re working out. Wear supportive jogging shoes and easy-on-body attire.
Measure your progress
You cannot quantify your progress if you do not calculate where you started from. Take your base measurements when
you start and then check and note them .
Log your workouts
Each and every workout session must be logged. Keep all of your fitness logs in a folder and make your very own winner diary. This can be motivating too.
Cardio workouts
Cardio sessions should vary in intensity and length. Try new cardio activities and keep things fresh.
Break free from myths
Gender no bar – everyone should strength train. Strength training builds muscle and increases bone density. Train all major muscle groups 1-3 times per week.
Sleep sound
Get 7-9 hours of sound sleep every night. Also, rest your muscles by not working out at least 2 days each week.
Warm up
Warm up for 5-10 minutes before each workout session. You must feel a rise in your body temperature to get going.
Cool down
Stretching out your entire body cools you down. This also helps to increase flexibility and decrease muscle soreness the next day.
Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and alert, make sure that you consume at least 500 ml of water per hour of your training.
Good nutrition means half battle won
No workout regime is complete without a healthy diet. Especially if your goal is to lose weight, you must watch your diet. Eating small healthy meals throughout the day compliments your fitness routine.
Burn fat naturally
Remember, slow and steady wins the race! Refrain thermogenic style pills and potions that claim rapid fat and/or weight loss. They not only make you dehydrated and speed up your heart rate (which can be unsafe); they also add to losing lean muscle mass, therefore lowering your metabolism and your body’s natural capacity to burn fat.
Abstain extreme workouts
Although being pumped about getting fit is terrific, you are doing yourself an injustice by excessive training and stunting your muscle which could eventually burn you out. Be realistic with your schedule and devote about 3-5 days of about 1 hour weight training and ½ hour cardio for optimal results.
Stay Motivated
Sign up for a marathon, find a workout buddy or train with a personal instructor – do whatever it takes to remain committed. If you falter, let go off the guilt and get back on your routine ASAP.
Remember, with passion, persistence and belief, you can do anything!
With Bourjois Eyeliner Pencils, your eyes tale the unspoken!
“My eyes are an ocean in which my dreams are reflected…”
Anna M. Uhlich was certainly very thoughtful when she quoted this adage! Indubitably, eyes are the best gift we human beings have as they define you as a person. Eyes that speaks volumes, powerfully accentuates your personality as well. Therefore, it is very essential to take good care of those twinkles and keep them gleaming.
Eye fashion
Eye fashion has been one of the oldest in the world of make-up and fashion. Long ago when the make-up tactics were still being discovered, the black “kohl” or “kajaal” continued prolonging in vogue. Some crowd saw applying kohl as a religious conviction while others followed the mythological anecdote attached to it. Either ways, eye fashion and accentuation has only positively developed with the passing years amid regular tinge of fashion.
Shine with Bourjois Eyeliner Pencil
In today’s time, where make-up and fashion is at its peak, one gets to see infinite amount of eye products – from kohl eyeliners to glitter, matt, liquid and waterproof eyeliner pencils – options continue elevating. You not only get to choose from various types of eyeliner but also set your color and shade preferences with many choices available… (read more)

From Sydney to London, New York and back to mystical Mumbai, the powder-puff Dandekar
girls are all set to cast a spell on every music lover with their new wave magical and melodic tunes. The band that is formed by sister group Anusha Dandekar, Shibani Dandekar and Apeksha Dandekar, is called Dmajor. While each of them boast impressive list of solo credits in their respective hometowns, they are finally living their dream of working on a project together. The concept behind Dmajor’s unique sound is inspired from the idea of bridging their gap between the Indian culture and Western influences. With Dmajor’s pioneer song writing sense, heartfelt harmonies, powerful vocals and walloping beats, these gorgeous girls are all set to make waves in the music world with the launch of their first studio album.
MM Life gets its readers an exclusive excerpt:
MM: Many talented Indian bands had come, made their presence felt and vanished with the speed of wind. Dmajor is perhaps the first girl band of the country that is trying a whole new wave and innovation in the music. Conversely, is the band focusing on any particular genre?
Dmajor: Since our childhood, we have been influenced by many different genres of music. We love everything from pop, rock, hip hop, R&B to classical, bollywood and jazz. Our album is a compilation of the different types of music that we are inspired by. We didn’t sit down and say ‘okay lets make a pop album’, we just wrote what we felt, how we felt and over a period of time put together a body of work that has become our album. The creative process was essentially an indication of how we felt musically at the time we were writing the album so parts of it are pop, some of it is R & B. Hopefully our music serves to be universal enough that everyone loves it!
MM: From producing music, singing, anchoring, acting, hosting live shows – three of you have succeeded in your individual careers. How did the idea of uniting together as a band struck?
Dmajor: Being sisters, the love for music and art has always been in our blood and the decision to work together was natural and in a way inevitable too. It just seemed like the right thing to do and so far it has worked well for us. As a band, our voices blend nicely together and we compliment each other well. Each one of us bring something different to the table that makes us better as a band. Besides, working together is so much fun and everything we do is part of the bonding process that makes us stronger as a team and a family.
MM: All you three sisters grew up and established yourself in 3 different countries. So why did you girls choose to launch the band’s first album in India?
Dmajor: Sydney, London and New York – yes, we do come from all parts of the world to work on this project and India seemed like the natural choice for our launch. At the end of the day, we are three Indian girls who just lived abroad and are returning to our roots, our hometown, and our people. We want to make our mark here and do something that has never been done in India before. We want to be the first successful Indian girl band and pursuing this seemed like the natural choice.
MM: Coming from varied musical background, how did all of you manage to sink in tune with each other, specially your tastes? And how was the experience?
Dmajor: Being sister definitely helps. It’s funny that without rehearsing much together, the connection exists. This makes our job easier… whatever we do, can only make this better!
MM: Like most of the musicians who conceptualize their albums, does Dmajor have any particular concept behind the music of the first album too?
Dmajor: Being singers, dancers and performers, we have to produce the kind of music that helps us showcase all these talents. Growing up amid women has definitely influenced the kind of concept we wanted for this album. Our music is edgy yet hard hitting – something that enables us to show what we really can do.
MM: Dmajor’s first live performance in Bangkok with Juggy D saw a huge crowd base and spells quite a raging success. How was the experience for you girls?
Dmajor: Bangkok was absolutely phenomenal. The crowd showered us with so much adoration and love that we are hoping to perform there on regular basis. It was one of the most amazing experiences for Dmajor, especially after you work on a project for so long and pour your heart and soul into it, only to receive this kind of appreciation is a great feeling. Opening for Juggy was grand too. He is a dear friend and a brilliant artist. We think, we have a great fan base in Bangkok now.
MM: Congratulations for such impressive hit… What’s the next step for Dmajor? How do you girls plan to launch your first studio album?
Dmajor: A lot of stuff is happening for Dmajor at the moment. We have a bunch of shows lined up all over India as well as a music video that we are going to shoot very soon. There will be an official launch shortly and we are in the rehearsals everyday for choreography, vocal training and the like. So definitely, a very busy as well as an exciting time for all three of us.
MM: It’s a well known fact that each of you girls individually boast strong identity, style and personality. How do you sisters plan to balance the look of the band?
Dmajor: Being sisters, we have so many things in common that as artists we tend to compliment each other and it all blends really well. Having said that, we all have different qualities that different people can relate to. It is important to show our individuality that our fans will notice. Our different characteristic will be seen through the videos, interviews and live performances.
MM: Considering such fashion addicts that you’ll are, any special fashion plans for styling to match the band’s funky music?
Dmajor: Oh yes, fashion is a huge part of the final package. Each of us have our own style and our image as an artist on and off the stage is important to us. We love fashion, so we are completely involved in the styling aspect of band. Based on three different styles, fans will definitely be able to relate to each member of our band.
MM: Our readers are eager to know the launch date for Dmajor’s first album, when is it scheduled? Any tours in the pipeline?
Dmajor: The launch of the album is in the works. Release date will out be very soon and of course a tour will follow after that. For more updates on our launch and forthcoming show dates, audiences may follow us at www.dmajoronline.com.

Meet Claudia Ciesla. All of 22 and she is already taking the world by charm with her curvaceously gorgeous appeal and her latest desire to make it big in Bollywood. While we execute an exclusive ‘Bollywood Retro’ photoshoot in Delhi, this 5’9” German green eyed mesmerizer is all set to wow the audiences of Indian television through the all time favourite reality show Big Boss 3
MM: Tell us about your most interesting assignment so far?
Claudia: I had shot for Mercedes Customer Magazine in Germany that represented the new E-class. I love cars and it was great to know that they’d selected me for this kind of assignment.
MM: You have already done a film, boast several fashion shoots to your accolade, became a brand ambassador for an university, been involved with a leading NGO and have already been linked with Bollywood superstars like Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan… Your Indian experience must’ve been overwhelming! Comment.
Claudia: My experience has always been great. Coming from Bukaw, a small town in Germany, a lot of times I was overwhelmed by the friendliness and hospitality I got from the Indian people… they made me feel at home and that’s the best feeling you can possibly have.
MM: What are your plans for India?
Claudia: I am very serious about working and finding my way out in India as I feel my future lies in this country. I am looking forward to learn Hindi and find a nice apartment in Mumbai too.
MM: Given a choice, what type of Bollywood film would you like to be part of?
Claudia: I am very sportive. I can easily manage any kind of sports and this includes martial arts too. I am not afraid of doing my own stunts. So one day, I would like to show some of these abilities in an action movie. But I can assimilate to any kind of roles – the most important is a good script, an excellent director and a great cast and crew who would make me feel like family, as I did with my former productions.
MM: Who is your favourite bollywood star?
Claudia: My favourite actor is Amitabh Bachchan for sure. He is a true Godfather of all actors in Bollywood and I love his film ‘Black’ so much. In actresses, I really love the work of Priyanka Chopra and I think she is very beautiful.
MM: Any role done by an Indian actress that you would love to do if given a chance?
Claudia: I loved the film ‘Om Shanti Om’ and the actress’s lead role would surely be interesting one to take up.
MM: Any intensions in settling down in India?
Claudia: Sure, that’s my plan.
MM: What do you think of the Indian fashion industry? Any designer that you particularly like?
Claudia: I love Indian fashion. On the whole, I like the designs by Ritu Kumar and Manish Malhotra.
MM: What’s your opinion about the Indian models?
Claudia: I think Indian models are very beautiful, with wonderful thick black hair and big eyes. There are certainly more female models in India than in Europe!
MM: How would you describe yourself?

MM: How romantic a person are you?
Claudia: I am very realistic, not at all a dreamer. I have faced many situations in the past that taught me the hard way and I realised life is not an easy game at all. Romantic moments or rather intense moments can be strong when I am around my best friends or family members, where I feel elatedly cozy. Also, I enjoy listening to nice music and relaxing by some nice beach with white sands, palm trees and a great full red sunset ambience…
MM: Who would be your dream date from Bollywood?
Claudia: Hmm… Okay, no names! The dream date could be a nice guy who makes me feel at home… and the one who gets me laughing and smiling often! *Winks*

Certainly, the golden years of Hollywood wouldn’t be any glorious if the intimate association of Max Factor with yesteryear movies wasn’t so strong.
When the company was formed in 1909 by Maximilian Faktorowicz, fondly known as Max Factor, little did he imagine the brand name to become today’s forerunner in the business of makeup and cosmetic revolution.
